Who should be first, employee or customer?

Just red some article in newspaper where was written how important for company is client. This article wasn't dedicated to people working in company but it made me think about that what is more important asset to company, employee or customer.

To run a successful business companies need both- people and costumers. Question is should company be more employee-centric or more customer-centric?

Customer is that who is bringing money for company but from opposite side there is employee who is working with customers and he actually is responsible for that how much money customer will bring, how long he will stay with company, how many new clients he will bring. It means that if company decides to be customer- centric without first step which is focus on employee they are loosing efficiency of money making process.

All of this adds up to money not well spent. What value do you place on your employees? Are you having un-replaceable people and are you paying for customer that he is staying with you or you are paying for your employee that he is keeping your customer to stay with you? Just think about it, will be glad to hear your opinion.
